Admissions

The local authority is the admissions officer for The Woodlands School therefore, all referrals and appeals are managed by the Special Educational Needs Department. www.milton-keynes.gov.uk

Entry Criteria

All children admitted to the school must possess an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP), which outlines their specific needs and challenges. We welcome applications from children and young people at any stage of their educational journey, recognising that each path is unique.

As a special school tailored for individuals with Autism and associated learning difficulties, our curriculum is meticulously crafted to address the primary needs of those on the Autism Spectrum. We are committed to fostering an inclusive and nurturing environment where students can flourish academically and socially.

It is important to note that The Woodlands School is not equipped to accommodate students whose primary needs stem from Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties or where severe learning difficulties is the primary need, even though there is also a diagnosis of Autism. Furthermore, we do not offer GCSE qualifications nor do we provide a fully sensory-based curriculum, as our focus remains squarely on meeting the diverse needs of our students within the parameters of Autism. 

Informal visits

The Leadership Team are always delighted to show parents around where the child lives within Milton Keynes City, has an Education, Health and Care Plan and has been identified as requiring a specialist provision. Due to the challenges of our students, and the need for consistency and routine,  we must put their well-being at the forefront and limit disruptions. 

However, parents should note that an invitation to visit does not constitute an offer of a place, nor does it indicate that the final outcome of an assessment will be a recommendation that your child comes to a school like The Woodlands School; such decisions remain the responsibility of the Milton Keynes Council's Special Educational Needs (SEN) Team. Please click on  MKC SEND  to obtain further information.
